My name is Drew and I am writing to you for your support for Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy’s (HETRA) “Drive to Ride” Campaign. This will be the fourth year I have participated in this effort and I am always overwhelmed by the support you have provided to HETRA. In 2010, my first year, I was able to raise just over $6,500. Last year, as a result of your generosity, I was able to raise over $18,000.
Some of you may already know about the therapy HETRA provides to children and adults with disabilities or disabling injuries. If you don’t, HETRA provides therapy using horses to provide riders with physical and sensory input from the horse’s gait.
I will be seven in a few days and have been receiving HETRA services since November of 2009. To this day, my doctors have not been able to diagnosis why I have global developmental delays. However, with the help of HETRA, I have been able to improve my gross motor skills faster than most thought was possible.
Below are two videos that documented my progress over the years. The first video, made in 2010, provides details about HETRA’s program and the progress I made during the first four months of receiving HETRA therapy. The second video, made in 2012, describes the current therapy I receive at HETRA and the progress I have made over the past few years.

This fundraising effort helps provide therapeutic activities for kids of all ages and will be used to help subsidize costs of $45 to $70 per session, which is critical as insurance does not cover this type of therapy. (Almost 90% of HETRA’s budget is used for student/program (83%) and fundraising activities (17%).)
This year I again have two goals. First, I would ask that you share the videos with anyone that you know who may benefit from HETRA’s services. It has the chance to change someone’s life. Second, my fundraising goal for this year is $25,000. I would appreciate it if you could help me achieve this goal by September 30th. Your tax deductible contribution can be made in the following forms:
· Check made out to “HETRA” (please give to Sara or Grant)
· My team page on HETRA’s website (http://www.hetra.org/?page_id=2159)
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call my Mom (Sara) or Dad (Grant). They will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
Thank you for your consideration and support of this wonderful organization!
For those of you that are not familiar with HETRA (“Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy”), HETRA provides therapy to children and adults with disabilities by using horses to provide riders with physical and sensory input from the horse’s gait. HETRA currently provides services to approximately 100 riders per week which helps improve their quality of life both physically and emotionally though equine assisted activities.
